The well-known Berlin Tech Campus, The Factory, is set to expand with new locations in other European countries. Simon Schaefer, one of the partners in the original Factory intends to expand to other locations in Europe with the Factory concept. A first location has already been been established: Lisbon.
Following a dispute more than a year ago, the original business partners in The Factory divided the business and pursued separate strategies. Udo Schloemer and Simon Schaefer are the founders of the well-known Tech Campus. Schaefer then split from the original Factory, opened in 2014, and is planning to expand with its own concept throughout Europe.
For this step away from Berlin, Schaefer now hi snew investor funding. The company has received one million euros in a first round of financing. The funding round has been led by Round Round Hill Capital, 500 Startups and Elkstone Capital. Other investors include well-know ‘start-up scene’ investors such as 6Wunderkinder founder Christian Reber and the founders of Adjust. Makers, the company building group, have also invested.
Lisbon is the target for a planned new campus. Schaefer is already represented in Berlin with two offices. Digital companies like Researchgate or Here are located in the offices under the label ‘Siliconallee’. International tech companies like Stripe have also rented office space.
