Best universities for graduate jobs: Global University Employability Ranking 2016

The Technical University of Munich is the only institution outside the US, UK or Japan to make it into the top 10 in the new Global University Employability Survey.

Wolfgang Herrmann, TUM’s president, credits this success to the deep relationships between the university and industry in Bavaria. The university’s academics also work for companies such as BMW, Siemens and Lindner, which gives students an immediate insight into the work environment.

“There is no other technical university that has such a rich economic environment and especially a technical economic environment [as] we do here in Munich,” Mr Herrmann said.

A number of other institutions at the top of the ranking – including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University – are also well known for their industry connections and entrepreneurial environment.

The global employability ranking, designed by HR consultancy Emerging and published exclusively by Times Higher Education, ranks universities producing the most employable graduates on the basis of a survey of companies around the world.

In some countries, graduate jobs are not easy to come by, but in European countries such as France, Switzerland and Germany, professional experience is built into degree programmes. Therefore, it is unsurprising that France, Germany and Switzerland are among the best represented countries in the employability ranking, along with the United Kingdom and the United States.
