This beautiful building, recently completed, in Stuttgart is just one example of what is possible with sustainable architecture and design and shows how Germany is pushing the boundaries in the field.
Designed by Blocher Blocher Partners, and now home to its new offices, the building incorporates geothermal heating, grey water recycling, and a green rooftop. The combination means the building has received the highest certification (Gold) by the German Council for Sustainable Building (DGNB).
The architects took advantage of the plasticity of cement to create a folded roof. The result was a completely new interpretation of the classical gable roof: Large-format pre-cast cement sections measuring eight by three meters were placed over an inner supporting shell.
